Extended Curriculum

Connah's Quay High School is keen to offer learners a wide variety of activities which enrich and support the curriculum.  These activities are designed to support the learners personal and social development as well as develop skills.

These programmes include the Performance Aspects of extra curricular activities.

Breakfast Club

Breakfast Club runs in school canteen every morning from 8.00am to 8.45am,
come along and say good morning.

You will have the chance to finish off homework, play games or just sit relax and have a chat.

For your breakfast you can have:

A meal deal at just 75p
Toast, cereal and drink or two toasts and a drink.
Hot drinks
Hot Chocolate, Tea, Coffee
Cold drinks also available
Bacon Bap
Toast or Crumpet
And much, much more
 If you are free school dinners you can claim an extra 75p a day during breakfast club time
 which will not be taken out of your dinner allowance.

Homework Club

Homework club runs from 3.15pm - 4.15pm Monday to Thursday and 3.15pm - 4.00pm on Friday.

This is an opportunity for learners to catch up on their homework and receive some additional help with it should that be necessary.  Learners have access to the Library and ICT facilities.

Help with Maths homework is available for all learners on Tuesday and Thursday after school in the Library, as part of the school's main homework club, but with Maths specialists to help.

Performing Arts

There are many Performing Arts opportunities which are available in Connah's Quay High School. More information is available from Mrs Henderson and Mr Bennett.

Maths Clubs

GAME CLUB (open to years 7, 8 and 9) on a Tuesday lunch time in M9.
Learners come to puzzle club to have their lunch, socialise and improve their numeracy skills through games and puzzles

UK MATHS CHALLENGE GROUP (open to years 7 and 8) on a Tuesday lunch time in M9.
Aimed at MAT learners who want to challenge themselves by participating in problem solving challenges. This leads onto them entering a national competition.

GCSE REVISION SESSIONS (open to all year groups) after school Tuesday-Friday.
To recap work learnt in lessons, complete homework or prepare for exams.

ADDITIONAL MATHS (Yeas 10 and 11)
Learners study this qualification, which is a bridge between GCSE and A Level.

M9 - learners have access to a suite of computers to practice maths skills via computer games. Monday, Thursday and Friday.

Science

Tuesday and Thursday 3.20pm - 4.20pm year 10 and 11 have triple Science lessons.

Year 10 and 11 BTEC classes. There are drop in sessions where they can arrange with their class teacher to catch up with their BTEC assignment. This is very informal and takes place on a as and when basis. Usually on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday after school.

We also have revision classes taking place on the run up to exams. Again, no fixed time for this, it is usually as and when needed.

Year 11 learners also use drop in sessions during their lunch time to catch up with Science controlled assessments.

Design Technology

TEXTILES CLUB (Year 7) Tuesday 3.15pm - 4.15pm

GRAPHICS AND TEXTILES (KS4 and KS5) Wednesday 3.15pm - 4.15pm

ART CLUB is offered on a Thursday lunchtime for all learners to support them with homework.

Years 7 and 8's come on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday after school to continue work on the set backdrop for the school play.

ENGINEERING CATCH UP (Year 11) Wednesday and/or Thursday

F1 CLUB (Year 10) Monday and Friday

CHILD DEVELOPMENT CATCH UP (Year 11) Wednesday by arrangement

Cymraeg/Welsh

SGORIO CLUB (Year 7) Thursday lunchtime in G9

 

 

Thursday after school 3.15pm - 4.30pm in room M32.

Anyone in Year 7,8 or 9 is welcome to join.

Each week we watch a range of popular films, chosen by learners, and discuss them afterwards.
Learners are encouraged to review their viewing and discuss ideas with peers. We will sometimes watch 'themed' films based around culture/historic events or through-provoking films.

BOOK CLUB

Book Club is on Wednesday lunch time in the library for Years 7, 8 and 9.

We all read a book together. This term it is 'Cogheart' by Peter Bunzl.

Connah's Quay High School is proud to run the Duke of Edinburghs Award Scheme.  This is a fantastic range of experience for the learners in the school.  It is a voluntary programme and further details can be gained via Mrs Sian Jones in school.
